In this series, I portray native animal and plant species from the New York City area, along with rocks and crystals we find in NYC. One of my dreams is to make a large, connected collage piece featuring as many of the city’s 1,300 species of plants and hundreds of species of animals as I can, in an effort to raise awareness of the need to protect the city’s native wildlife, and restore and replenish an ecosystem that has been around for much longer than we have been.
Plastic Habitats
In this sculptural collage series, I created recycled paper pieces that looked like organic material formed from of plastic bags and other trash. I juxtaposed collage images and drawings of people and marine wildlife, along with flower petals and reused packaging in the pieces. The pieces portray human-created plastic trash that has been collecting our oceans and waterways, and its uncomfortable place alongside plants, animals, and other species in the marine habitat.
Visual Journals
This series explored my personal history, and my family’s history. I pieced together old photographs of my family with scraps of fabric, paper, other odds and ends from family life, and text I had written about my life at the time.
